So Long July...

So as the hottest and driest month this year comes to a close I thought it would be good to do a little review. It was a wonderful month, and despite the hot and the dry I thoroughly enjoyed myself!

Boat rides, strawberry picking, gardening, music festivals, camping and cottaging. I loved every minute of it, surprisingly summer is my least favourite season. But I think I like where I live because of the seasons, if the weather was always the same, I wouldn't have as much to look forward to.

Have you visited my July Sponsors yet? Check them out to the far right, wonderful and inspiring people! Tuesday there will be some new ones :)

Weekend Wedding Update

So we finally, after a lot of blood, sweat and tears, got our invitations out. Alright so it wasn't that dramatic. But we did have a lot going on, and the invites just seemed to take a while to get organized. So here is a peek at those.

I'm sorry this does not mean that you are invited to the wedding. But you get lots of peeks and a close-to-being-there experience from right here on the blog. I got some great reviews from people about the collage style of the invite - very personal. Which is just the look I was hoping for!

We decided to try e-mailing some, and mailing some. So far we are getting a good response from both! So exciting :)

What do you think? Any other people out there getting married? Or recently tied the knot? What did your invites look like?

And we're off!

Reggie, Gunner and I are headed to the cottage this afternoon. I have scheduled posts while I'm gone, including a wedding update :)

For those Canadians out there who are lucky enough to be celebrating the civic holiday - cheers! And I hope everyone, everywhere has a good weekend!

Visiting :)

This week I decided to switch around some days off so my mother and I could go up north to Lake of Bays to visit my great Aunt. She has a family cottage up there and she stays there for 1 month every summer. It is a place we have visited every summer for about as long as I can remember. I have fond memories of building sandcastles with cousins, staying in the water until my toes were wrinkly, walking along the shoreline, looking at all the old photographs, and dreaming about one day living in such a beautiful place.

Isn't it beautiful? I'm so glad I made it, even if just for an afternoon visit. :)

July Sponsor Spotlight!

Hello! I'm Jennifer from Just Jen. I'm a creative Oregonian girl who's trying to work her way into a creative career. My day job is rather boring, so I'm going back to school this fall to study graphic design! I love praising God, photography, and cuddling with my cat while watching X-Files. Come visit my blog and learn more about my creative inspirations!

I consider myself to be a little bit of everything: a writer, a knitter, a sewer, a feltmaker, a bread baker, a gardener, a traveller and a lover of slowing things down.  The Raw Edge is my attempt to put all my passions into one.  The things I make focus mainly on two things: playing outdoors and treading lightly on our planet. When I was 24 I can remember sitting in a tent in the mountains sewing little stuff sacks out of second hand nylon I scrounged from a local shop; I spent endless hours dreaming of one day having a table with a sewing machine...and now ta-da!  I'm living the dream!

I am Chrissy and blog over at Whimsical Poppysmic. I am a wife and mother and I am a crafter! I love crafting so much that I opened my Etsy shop Whimsical Poppysmic last December! It is so much fun creating new items and getting inspired by everyday life!

Hi! My name is Sarah. I'm a 20 year old college student studying theatre. My dream job would be to live in NYC and work in theatre. I started my blog after a tough breakup, and now I've found a passion about writing about my life and the things around me. I love talking about baking, and I hope one day to go to grad school. Please stop on by - I'd love to be blog friends! :)

Hey! I'm Polly and I blog over at Pixie Mama about my life as a mama, wife and craft-a-holic! I design and create bohemian jewellery and upcycled clothing which I sell in my Etsy Shop –
This Enchanted Pixie. I’d love to get to know you – so please stop by and say hi!

Lindsay is a freelance designer, window display coordinator, photographers assistant, jewelry maker and shop owner. She has always had a wild imagination and tries her hardest every day to make all her dreams come true. She recently quit her full time office job to pursue all she has ever wanted to do.

Aren't they a wonderful bunch? Take a look around their sites, I assure you, you will not be disappointed. :) Interested in being a part of Newfoundlander at Heart? E-mail me, or click here for more info!

Weekend Wedding Update

So I decided since my wedding is coming up (much faster than I am ready for); I thought it would be good to share some of the plans and wedding developments on a weekly basis. How is that for an idea? mmm, I thought you might think so!

So here is a peek of my wedding dress, as well as our wedding colours!
The wedding is in late September, and I have chosen some colours that represent the fall leaves, contrasting the bright autumn sky. I will also be using some natural greens and browns in the decor.

Fall just happens to be my favourite!

S'more Love! (a delicious DIY)

So earlier this week I blogged about a trip I took for work. And in the evening we had a chance to relax, sit by a fire and cook some s'mores! What are s'mores you ask? Well as a blogger I made sure to take photographic evidence of the process, so could I share it DIY style with you all! :) If anyone is planning a camping trip this weekend, here is a great way to spend your evening!

Step 1:
Make sure you have all the necessary ingredients:
- graham crackers
- marshmallows
- chocolate (jersey/dairy milk works well)
- tin foil (for added gooeyness)

Step 2:
You have to find yourself a good marshmallow stick, and with a sharp knife make one end pointed. However, in provincial parks we are not allowed to pick up fallen wood, so I used kindling sawed down to the appropriate size (thank goodness for my knife!), and some old wiener roasters that my mom gave me.

Steps 3-5:
Lay out your graham crackers, add a piece of chocolate, and I usually put this close to the fire on/in tinfoil to melt the chocolate.

Step 6:
Carefully put your marshmallow on the stick, and you want to roast it close to hot coals (not flames), until it is golden brown and bubbly. Try to avoid to temptation to eat it! Or eat it and roast another :)

Step 7:
Place the golden marshmallow on the graham cracker with the melted chocolate, and top with a second graham cracker.

Step 8:
Enjoy! Try not to get melted chocolate and sticky marshmallow everywhere - but believe me it can be difficult to avoid!
Happy camping, and s'more making! And thanks very much to my friend Kathleen for her assistance with the photography!

What is your favourite treat while camping?
