Today the internet was down at our house, and I was amazed at the amount of time it created. Pip only sleeps for about 30-40 for his naps and although he has a few of them I often run out of time. But today, with no internet available to check my e-mail, browse a few posts in my reader or catch up on twitter I had so much free time (for a person who hangs out with a 3 month old!).
So while Pip was napping, and without the internet I managed to: vacuum upstairs and down, do the dishes, tidy the kitchen, water the plants, finish four (small) sewing projects that were sitting around for ages, fold and put away laundry, and eat... I always need some time to eat. But it really made me realize that perhaps I don't need to spend so much time on the computer, and with that free time I can do... well, just about anything!

It can be kind of shocking how much time we squander online. I do miss the internet terribly when it's out, but it can be wonderfully refreshing to unplug for a little bit!
ReplyDeleteWhen we have my boyfriends baby I MAKE myself clean, or at least pick up the toys, before I sit on the couch. Sitting on the couch either means the internet or taking my own nap, and once I start those, there's no going back until she wakes up and demands attention!
ReplyDeleteThis is more successful now that she's older and she takes 1-2 long naps instead of several short ones.
This makes me want to turn off my computer hours earlier everyday just so that I can get more done. Perhaps I will. Thanks for this post!
ReplyDeleteThis makes me realize that maybe our internet should turn off.. haha. great post! thanks for the perspective :)
