Making Memories Last

When I was expecting Pip I had some Maternity photos done, and wanted badly to get newborn photos, including some nursing photos done - I never ended up getting any of the maternity photos and never had the time/money to get the newborn photos done. So this time round I was bound and determined, and am I ever happy I did.

As someone who is interested in photography, I always assume I will be able to find the time to take beautiful photos of my own. But that rarely ever happens. It is so worth it to have had these beautiful moments to look back on. When I saw that the lovely ladies at Glow Maternity had hired a photographer I decided I would inquire, and was so happy when I finally met Stephanie during my maternity shoot.

Here are a few of my favourites from the maternity shoot:

I was so happy to be able to capture a few moments with Pip. Unfortunately Daddy was not home that day so he missed out on the the photo op. We are lucky we fit it in when we did, because less than a week later, little miss Emi decided to make her entrance (5 days early).

These are a few of my favourites from the newborn shoot:

So precious. I love all of them, and I have no idea how I am going to choose which to print. However I am so glad I made the investment of time, energy and money to get these. In 20-something years when they are both grown I will be so happy to have these to look back on.

If you live in the Peterborough area and are looking for a maternity/newborn/family photographer I would highly recommend Stephanie from Glow Maternity. She is a beautiful person, and takes amazing photos!

Indie Gift Box Feature

I had eluded to this earlier this year, but I wanted to share once it was published. I am one of the contributing artists for Indie Gift Box this month.

This is an awesome little company in the US that gathers small handmade items from crafters and artists, packages them in themes and sells them to folks at an extremely good rate. For $20-$25 you receive items from a number of different handmade artists, as well as promotional materials and discounts for shops. It is a great way to find out about small handmade businesses, especially with the holidays right around the corner. If you were looking for some unique stocking stuffers this might be a great idea for you! I encourage you to go check out the IGB website, read my feature post, or if you are super keen, buy a box, I promise there will be something nice from me ;)

Also, while we are on the subject of KTP, I am in the process of adding a few new photos/prints/cards to the shop. Stay tuned. I will update once they are posted!

The Magic of Sparkle

I am a lucky lady. I spend my summers working outside in a park it is a busy and tiring job, but I love it. Then, in the off season, I work part time at a local retail location, which I also love and spend time at home with my little man. That is except for one day. One day a week my in-laws are wonderful enough to watch Pip so I can focus on my creative pursuits (or house cleaning, but most the creative thing ;).

Yesterday was that one day. Reggie takes our little guy in to town, and I have one full work day to get as much accomplished as possible. And soon as they left... I wanted so badly to sunggle back under the warmth of our duvet and snooze, but... ain't nobody got time for that!

It was a beautiful bright morning with a sparkly hard frost, and I decided to take the pup, my camera and a hot cup of tea and head for the woods. And I remembered (as I do every time I head out on a photography adventure), why I love the art. A quiet morning in the crisp, cool air with my thoughts and my lens. I took a number of photos, likely more than 200, and of course only have a few to work with, but I wanted to share a couple with you.

Here is a peek of my adventure into the magical world of an early morning sparkle:

These will make their way into my shop in the next couple weeks, as prints and cards. And, I would love and feedback you have!

I hope you are having a wonderful day, and you have better weather where ever you are (it's rainy here)!

Through my Lens: Fall on the Rock

It's been a while since I posted something uniquely Newfoundland. I thought as Fall here comes to full bloom, I should share some shots of my experiences in Newfoundland during the Autumn.

Beautiful, isn't it!?

Through my Lens: In the Hay Loft

As the fields become golden in colour, it is almost time for harvest!
A little look back at my summer in NL.
I didn't actually help with the mowing of the hay, but I helped turn it in the fields and pack it in to the hayloft. Hard work!

busy as a bee!

Why is summer always so busy!? I have a lot on the go, and truth be told I had a bit of a melt-down recently. Between being rather busy at work developing and presenting programs, planning my wedding, trying to keep up with blogging and sponsoring, staying in touch with far-away friends, and attempting to eat and sleep on a regular basis... I was a little over-loaded. Unfortunately this meant letting down a couple people I care greatly about, and neglecting to spend time with my best friend and love, Reggie.

Why am I sharing this with you? Because I wanted to explain why my posts have been a little sporadic! I love writing my blog, and sharing my goings on with all of you; I just wanted to let you know that if I don't post for a few days at a time it means I have a lot going on, but I certainly haven't forgotten about you! I adore, and truly appreciate all my readers out there, including those who are too shy to comment :).

And as a bit of an appreciation I am still offering my prints at 50% off! Just use the code PRINT50!

So if you are interested take a look around the Newfoundland Photography section of the Hooked Goods Shop, and see if there is a print you would like! 50% off is a pretty good deal! :)

And thanks again for being such wonderful readers!

Through my Lens: Canada Day in Newfoundland

Looking for the Giveaway? Scroll down! :)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As we Canadians are gearing up for a National Holiday I thought I would share some shots from one of my most memorable Canada Day experiences:
During the day we hiked over a large hill (small mountain) towards Chimney Cove. What a view! Definitely worth the 4 hour round-trip hike!

All of the animals from near-by towns pasture here during the summer.
Not a bad place to summer, if you are a cow, horse or perhaps... me?
The provincial flower: The Pitcher Plant
And in the evening I had the opportunity to watch some fireworks overlooking the bay at Trout River.
