From the Stash: Projects on the Go!

Good morning, and Happy Saturday! I have a few things I have been working on over the past few weeks, and I thought I should stop in a share my progress. I know I have been really bad at posting these lately, and because I haven't actually finished anything I feel like it isn't worth it. But I understand that you still like to see what I have in progress! I have to run into town this morning and do a couple errands, but after that I will be sewing all afternoon :D

With the news of the craft show acceptance I have gone a little crazy and I spent the day (yes the whole day) yesterday cutting items to sew up. And today I plan on sewing for a good part of today :) So I cut out a few totes, up-cycled coffee bags from a local cafe. And I cut some more boot beanies, and for an event I am co-organizing tomorrow I cut out 100 mini-boot beanies (to make 50 pair). I like the idea behind the mini-boot beanies as a trial and I might do more of these in the future, as well as some in a larger size.

 

 

I will likely be adding some of these items to my Hooked Goods shop because the craft show is still a long ways off. But with an end goal like that floating around in my brain you will be sure to see lots of crafting going on in these parts!

One last thing I've thinking about is making a cute changing pad cover for pip. And I know that seems kind of impossible because as cute as it is it will get dirty, but I have a plan. Here are some fabrics I plan on using, and I will be sure to share the outcome next weekend - promise!

From the Stash: Plastic Bag Storage Tutorial & New Project

A couple weeks ago I shared my plans to solve the problem of our over flowing bottom kitchen drawer. It is amazing, even though we don't get plastic bags when grocery shopping and often say no when asked if we would like them, how many we actually have!

So this drawer is now a much tidier place, and I think is going to become a much more convenient place to keep our dish clothes and towels. :)

From the Stash: Plastic Bag Storage (& tutorial)

So I finally finished my overnight bag, and I thought I would share a few photos of that before sharing my new project for this week:

 

 

 

 

I am super happy with the outcome! I think it might be a little small for a real overnight bag, and the lining is a little baggy. But I plan on playing with the pattern and using up more fabric from my stash. And then I will increase the size and have two separate patterns. Perhaps this size will work well as a baby/diaper bag! I also created a short tutorial on how to make the interior pocket for the bag, click on the tutorials page above and the appropriate tutorial.

And on to this week's creation. A solution for the mess that is our bottom kitchen drawer.

I decided it would be a good idea to make a plastic bag holder that can hang in out pantry cupboard. I had a bit of veggie fabric left and found a few pieces in the stash that went along with it. I'm basically going to make one long tube of fabric, and I'm just hoping it will be big enough to store all the bags that we currently have (I'm not sure where they came from, we generally use reusable bags for groceries, etc.).

I think I might do a little tutorial for this one too, so be on the look-out for that next week!

From the Stash: Overnight Bag

So I have wanted an overnight bag for sometime, and I've searched high and low on the web to find a tutorial or pattern that I like. But to no avail. So I've decided I am going to make one. And my system might be a little different then others, but I am happy with what I've got going.

So these are a few fabrics that I bought on super sale (not intending for them to coordinate) and I really wanted to use them for something. So I've decided that I'm going to make the bag with them, and because a few of the pieces are fat quarters I had to scale the size of the bag down a little to make sure it would fit with the fabric I want to use. So I might be making a few of these in the future. Also as you can imagine I don't want to use this fabric for my first draft, so I will make a trail version with other fabric, and then depending on how it goes I am going to use this fabric for the second. And you can see the beginnings of my pattern in the background!

Sooo excited. I will be sure to share updates on this as I make progress. :) I'm in Orillia for the weekend, visiting my parents. How are your weekend plans shaping up?

From the Stash: Boot Beanies

So as I was cleaning up after the disaster that is the holiday season I decided to look through my current fabric supply and lo and behold... So many prints I had totally forgotten about! I have a problem of going to the fabric store for something specific and then stopping by the fat quarter section, especially if there are fat quarters one sale! Oh my:) And because of my busy summer, followed by a very tired fall and an even busier December I didn't get a whole lot of sewing done. So one of my New Year resolutions (I will give you the entire list when I'm done figuring it out) is to sew my way through my stash, and try some new patterns along the way.

This week I had a request for a pair of my boot beanies in a colour that wasn't listed but visible in one of the photos. I didn't have any made, but I did have some fabric still so I'm going to whip up some more boot beanies to add to the shop, and use up some fabric bits! And, I'll see how many I can create, there is a possibility the store I work at would sell them so if I can get a good quantity done I will take a few in there and see how it goes!

I'm going to try to share a "From the Stash" post once a week or so. Sometimes it might be a completed project, and sometimes just a plan like today. And if you have any challenges for me please let me know!

Fabric Sample

So a while back on Spoonflower they were giving away a free sample in a pattern of your choosing. I found out about the giveaway about 10 minutes before it closed, but I managed to find one I liked and I checked out just in time! I think it might have gotten lost in the mail, but it made it here eventually, and now I just need to figure out what to make with it :)

It's a pretty cute little scene as is, so I think I'll keep it all together. I was thinking a small pillow, but that might be a little plain. If you have any ideas please let me know!
